The Story Of The Prodigal Spouse

The Story Of The Prodigal Spouse

Dear Spouse, It’s me, your lost beloved.  I know you’re praying for me. I know because I can’t quit thinking about you and what I’ve done to you. My heart has gone bitter. It has become hard because the enemy deceived me, and the entire time I was running, I knew it was wrong. Please, pray that God will give me a new heart to know him. I’m afraid, and my heart is saturated with anger, shame, and guilt. Will you pray that God grants me a new heart, and I can come to know him again?

I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart. – Jeremiah 24:7

I keep having one bad thing after another happening to me. No matter what I do, it seems like everything goes wrong. I can’t seem to get ahead; people are angry with me; my life is upside down. I know I tell you life is excellent and that I’m so much happier, but the thing is, I’m not! It would be best if you didn’t see the pain, the shame, and the troubles that have come since I left you. It’s like God is mad at me or something.

Psalm 38:1-22
A Psalm of David, for the memorial offering. O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and fester because of my foolishness.

Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

It seems like everywhere I go, God is reminding me to come back home. I have dreams, visions, and endless memories of you. I can’t seem to get away from God. I turn my music up to drown out the noise, and advertisements for marriage restoration play on the radio. God won’t leave me alone! I can’t escape him. I know it’s because you are praying. But, please, don’t stop!

Psalm 139:7-10 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.

I know you think about giving up on me. I know how hard this must be. What you can see is someone who left you, hates you, and wants nothing to do with you, right? It’s not true! The enemy has me in bondage! I’m scared; I’m tired; I have thoughts of ending my life to stop this pain. I’m in chains to the devil, and you are all I have right now! Please, don’t give up on me! If you give up, who will fight for me? I NEED YOU!!! DON’T STOP PRAYING AND FASTING!

2 Timothy 2:26
and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

2 Peter 2:19
promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.

Now, let’s go to the standers side
You are hurting; you are broken. Each day, you desire to give up and once again find someone who will bring you joy. But, for some reason, you can’t stop thinking of your prodigal. You can’t give up even if you want to. “Why God!” you shout in pain. “Why can’t I just move on?!”

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

You have been given the grace to stand. This is the reason you can’t give up. He doesn’t give you a remarkable amount to make it easy; he gives you just enough so that in your weakness, his power will rest upon you. Grace is God’s instruction for you to stand. He knows what’s coming and doesn’t want you to give up.

The enemy will do everything to destroy your stand and keep your loved one in bondage. He’s going to seduce you with anger, bitterness, sex, and anything else he can to eliminate your will to press forward in this battle. The good news is, God will always provide a way out for you.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

When you are done with your self-pity, you decide to pray and fast for your loved one. THIS IS A FIGHT! YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED INTO THIS BATTLE, AND GOD WILL BRING YOUR VICTORY IF YOU DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!

Ephesians 6:13
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Luke 10:19
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.

Deuteronomy 20:4
For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.

So, we stand. We don’t stop standing until we see our promise come to pass. We pray, and we fast until we have victory. We praise, worship, give thanks, and march our way to the battlefield, knowing all well that God will deliver his promise to us. What is his promise? That he will never stop going after the strays. That he will find them and bring them home. The bible says he himself (GOD) will bring them home!!

For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. (Ezekiel 34:11)

He also says
Mark 10:9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.

So, you will keep fighting. God will keep his promise. It’s not his will for divorce. He hates it! It doesn’t matter what free will tells us because Proverbs tells us that we can choose our plans, but God directs our steps. He will always lead us right back to his will.

Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
