Standing For Marriage After Divorce
I’ll never forget the day my beautiful wife left home. I cried for weeks and lost every bit of fat on my bones. I spent the first two days after she left in a jail cell. I was an awful husband, my friends. I didn’t lead her in prayer; I didn’t pray over her; I called her names and tried to control her life. I smoked Marijuana several times per day and lusted after other women. Finally, the day she left me, we fought over the car keys as I was demanding an explanation of why she wanted to go. I grabbed her by her hair and finally got the keys. I would spend the next few days in a holding cell at the Livingston County Jail.
Even as I write this to you, tears cover my face. I can’t believe the awful man I was with such a precious child of God. But, you see, sometimes we must face our wrongs in life through trials such as this. The truth is God is using this trial to change us into what we need to become, and when it’s over, I believe that he will restore our marriage, and it will be better than ever before!
Suffering Prepares Us For Marriage Restoration
1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
It is through our afflictions that God restores us. But, unfortunately, the Christian life does not come with easy paths and is never problem-free. God promises us struggles.
strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”
We all start innocent and pure, and as life goes on, the weight of our sins begins to corrupt us and defile our Spirits. Trials are God’s response to our corruption. Through many tribulations, we enter his kingdom.
Does Divorce End A Marriage?
Is divorce the end of your marriage? Absolutely not! The fact is his word says that WHATEVER HE JOINS TOGETHER, LET NO MAN TAKE APART! My dear brothers and sisters are judges, not men? Are the people they are not dating, not men and women? If his word says LET NO MAN takes them apart, we must trust that he indeed has a rescue plan. A covenant is between two persons and God. What God joins together others can’t take apart, and just because some guy in a robe gives you a piece of paper saying it’s over doesn’t mean it’s over! So, does divorce end a covenant? No! Only God gets to make that call, my friend.
The Argument Of Free Will and Divorce
What if I told you that free will is, in fact, not free will at all. What if I told you it’s more like a long leash and on the other end, is God holding that leash?
A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
You see, we can always make plans, but the steps we take are in complete control of God in Heaven. We start off thinking, “I know what I want, and I’m going to get it!” Then, with each step we take away from our calling, we are going in one big circle back to where he wants us. Because he controls our steps, he will always lead us back to his purpose.
He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
You see, we are predestined for his will! He works all things out for HIS GOOD! So his name will be glorified, and his will, my friends, will be done!
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Now, let me ask you this, do you believe restoration is his purpose for your life? Do you suppose that when God says what he joins together, let no man take apart he would ever say this in vain? Does God lie, or do men? I believe God wants to restore and needs us to be patient with him. It may have taken the enemy ten years to destroy your marriage, so why not give God his chance to get it back?
Divorce Does Not Scare God
Every day all across this world, marriages are being restored! We have God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and all of Heaven’s armies fighting for our spouse! Jesus, in his time, raised the dead, healed the sick, cast out demons, escaped death, and performed countless miracles! That same Jesus would tell you this.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
Now, do you believe if Jesus was with you right now, if he was involved in your marriage, that he could wave his hands and heal your spouse of all problems and bring them home? My friends, he is with you! He has given you the same power through the same Spirit he used to do those great things! Therefore, we must not lose heart, brothers and sisters! God is able, and he has given us the authority and the Holy Spirit to do the same miracles he himself did!
We Must Change Before This Trial Is Over
As we wait, God is trying to do something in us. Did God want this divorce? No! But, God will use all things for evil and turn them into something beautiful so that his name is glorified. So, we must allow this trial to transform us. No more pride, vanity, self-righteousness, bitterness, lust, and anything else that needs to go. He wants us to change! There’s a song called blessings, and part of the lyrics says, “What if the trials in this life are his mercies in disguise?” You see, God loves us so much that he can’t stand us living in sin; he can’t stand seeing us living a lie; his trials are his mercy! He could turn his head and watch our sins destroy us, but he is far too merciful!
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
I can promise that when this trial is over after your character has changed and you are hopeful of his love and faithfulness, you will see the glory of God and his miracle! Of course, this is not my opinion, my friends, but it is precisely what the word of God tells us.
1 Peter 4:12-13
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
God’s glory is an indicator of his value. Throughout the Old and New Testament, evidence of God’s glory is seen in miracles. Thus, a natural response to seeing miracles was to praise God and give him glory.
I think that your miracle will bring God Glory! I believe his name will be glorified, and your testimony will help destroy the enemy’s plans for divorce and the destruction of families. With this said, please allow this trial to have its way in your life and your personality.
His Timing Is Never Off
My dear brothers and sister, let me ask you a question. What if God had brought the floodwaters before Noah finished the Ark? What if Joseph was made the great ruler he was before God changed his cocky and arrogant attitude? What if he brought your spouse home before they were totally transformed? What if you still have something in you that would cause them to run again? Please, trust in God’s perfect timing! He is never off one day.
For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.
God knew one day you would need this verse. He saw you would be here crying out for answers, and your needs partly inspired this verse. So he says, “If it seems slow, wait for it!” You see, he knew it would seem slow; he knew you would want to give up! So he then says, “IT WILL SURELY COME!” followed by “IT WILL NOT DELAY!” What does he mean that it will not delay? He is saying you need to trust his timing! They have to be ready, and you have to be prepared before that day comes, and it will come!
Keep Your Hands Busy As You Wait
It is no mistake that you are standing for your marriage after divorce. God wants to use you to encourage others to do the same. He is using this to arm you with a powerful testimony. We overcome the enemy with the blood of the lamb, and what? That’s right! By the blood of the lamb and the WORD OF OUR TESTIMONY!
Many of you turn to groups, articles and are constantly seeking relief for your situation. Please know that I’m not saying those things are wrong or that we shouldn’t seek encouragement, but what if you started helping others and denied your problems? Do you not understand that God can fight your battle for you?
He may be calling you to use your story to encourage others. In a sermon from brother Derek prince, he says the place God calls us to be is also the trials he has us walkthrough. Because you have been called to stand, you are also being equipped for standing ministry!
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Let go of your battle and give it to the Lord! It’s time to take your pain and suffering and use them to love others who need to hear from God! Never let a good testimony go to waste!
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
Should I Be Standing For A Marriage After Divorce?
Did God call you to stand? To summarize what this is all about, we have to answer whether I should be standing for marriage after divorce? Yes! You should never give up on God’s promises. God could have his miracle prepared for you in 762 days, and you walk away after 761. The fact is, if God called you to stand for marriage restoration, he has plans to restore your family! Do not give up! Do not lose heart and you will see the goodness of God in the land of the living! Keep proclaiming God’s word over your spouse!
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.
