Marriage Restoration And Hopelessness
What happens when we stop focusing on Jesus and look to our circumstances? Unfortunately, some of you are drifting deeper and deeper into despair and hopelessness. You say things like, “They’re so happy now, they don’t want me back!” or “They told me to give up!”
First of all, this is every person standing! Not one of us gets calls saying, “I love you, I need a bit more time to keep sinning, but I will be home.” So, how are some of us able to take things better than others? How can some of us have peace while waiting despite no logical proof that things will ever change? We trust God’s promise despite circumstantial evidence.
We Walk By Faith And Not By Sight
The word says we walk by faith and not by sight. When you walk by sight, you will always drift into hopelessness. Our flesh wants proof! Our flesh demands evidence that God spoke to us. “God, please show me again and again until I believe!” The entire point of a trial is to increase our faith. If he constantly reminded you of what he said, you wouldn’t need faith!
In a sermon I watched about hearing from God, the pastor said, “If it seems as if God is no longer speaking to you, perhaps it’s because he already told you and is expecting you to have faith.” We are not suitable for any situation with a double mind. One day we believe, and the next, we question God.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Faith Refined By Fires
The trials are testing your faith to produce patience. Just like gold is taken through extreme heat to purify its imperfections, so are we being tested by the fires of life to grow in faith. So next, let patience have its perfect work, that you may be lacking nothing. What does this look like while standing? If someone doesn’t have patience, they’re constantly asking for more signs, more proof and lose hope regularly. They say things like, “It’s been x many years, and they still don’t love me!” or “What is taking God so long?”
This is a person who has yet to allow their faith to grow. They are not complete with the purification process. There are still impurities that need to come out of them. If someone is on the fence about standing and one day has faith, and the next turns to logic, they are double-minded. What does the bible say about people who are back and forth?
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Pessimism The Miracle Blocker
You could be moments away from your blessing, but the doubt, hopelessness, and double-mindedness are keeping you from your miracle! Why? Because the trail must keep on until your purification process is finished! As long as you lack faith, you are double-minded, and if you are double-minded, you SHOULD NOT SUPPOSE YOU WILL RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM THE LORD.
I say this with love! God can’t stand double-minded people! What if every time you told your child something, they said, “I don’t believe you, mommy, or daddy?”
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Doubting Is Sin
Doubting God is sin! It’s just as evil, if not more so, than drinking or doing drugs. It’s the reason the Israelites were kept waiting for 40 years in the desert. Had they not questioned the goodness of God, they may have been out in days! Doubting God’s goodness is a miracle destroyer!
So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?”
This victim mentality stems from a lack of faith in God’s goodness. It is nothing more than a miracle destroying, self-absorbed pity party of total destruction. It’s cancer to blessings and should be avoided at all costs.
How Can We Change From Self Pity To Faith?
I believe self-pity and doubt stem from self-focus. If we are focused on our problems and desires, we’ll be pulled towards our own will. Is this what God wants from us? What does his word say?
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
What Does It Mean To Deny Yourself?
Deny what? Your will, your problems, and your desires. We must become dead to ourselves to be used by God for his glory. If you are self-focused, you could care less about the things of God. He knows who is hungry to do his will and who is using him for a breakthrough. Therefore, he will not be mocked!
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
If we live now by faith, this means we are showing evidence that we have crucified the flesh. But, on the other hand, if you struggle with constant despair and doubt, you are still walking in the flesh. Why? Because if someone denies themself, they will care more about the problems and concerns of others than their own lives.
2 Corinthians 5:15
And he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
My suggestion to you is to seek God with all you have. Ask him to bring his will into your life. Then, show up each day to serve him and serve others with your testimony. You should care more about the restoration of your brothers and sisters than your own. The word says God restored everything Job had when he prayed for his friends. I believe his act of praying for his friends despite him needing God far more was an act of humility and brought with it the favor of God.
And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
